Wineries no longer have to worry about determining which areas of Tennessee are approved for direct-to-consumer shipping. On May 20, 2011, Governor Haslam signed Senate Bill 1030 into law, opening the entire state of Tennessee for direct-to-consumer shipping. SB 1030 amends Section 57-3-217(d) of the Tennessee code by striking the language prohibiting direct shippers from shipping wine to addresses located in jurisdictions that have not authorized the sale of alcoholic beverages. The legislation became effective upon the Governor’s signature allowing wineries with a Tennessee direct shipping permit to begin shipping to consumers across the entire state of Tennessee immediately. Licensed shippers may ship up to one case per month, but not more than three cases per year to a consumer during a calendar year.
